The UEFA President is a former player, and plied his trade for Juventus for five years, winning two Scudetti, the European Cup and three Ballon d’Or.

“Juventus have made a big step forward by beating Malmo,” Platini reflected in an interview with RAI Sport after taking in Fiorentina’s win at Guingamp.

“Roma will go through if they do well at home to Manchester City, and things are going well in the Europa League [for Italian teams].

“Italy has reached a certain level, we’ll see what happens later. The Europa League is a good tournament, it’s the essence of European competition.

“There are big budgets in the Champions League, but we have everything else here in this competition.
